August 15, 2022

In this week's issue on our Real Estate tech funding radar - Stoa , the Arizona-based company behind the iBuyer software platform, FlipOS by Stoa, raised $100 million. The capital injection will enable the company to work with more professional real estate investors to grow and scale, and help close the US housing gap. Separately, another Real Estate Tech startup raking in a $100 million round is San-Francisco-based OpenSpace , which expanded its $102 million Series D round in March 2022 with an additional $9 million. The funds will be used to expand its presence in APAC and to continue developing AI-powered technologies. Further North, Toronto-based Properly, a Real Estate tech-enabled brokerage offering a new approach to real estate secured a $36 million CAD funding round. The fresh funding will enable Properly to further streamline the real estate experience for Canadians, invest in its technology and expand its product suite.

On the news front, underscoring Altus Group 's continued drive for aggressive acquisitions in the sector, Commercial Observer unpacks the company's appetite for Real Estate tech startups. In a similar vein, according to proptech veteran investor Andrew Ackerman , changing market dynamics may present a golden opportunity for CVC - often shunned from top deals, to get a seat at the table.

We're proud to bring you our flagship conference, CREtech New York 2022's Agenda at a Glance, taking place this October 12-13 at Pier 36. Save $300 on an Early Bird pass for the BIGGEST event in real estate innovation before prices go up on August 27.

Is The Current Market Cycle A Golden Opportunity for Corporate Venture?

According to proptech veteran investor Andrew Ackerman, Corporate Venture Capital has a bad reputation in the startup world. While there are some notable exceptions, this reputation is all too often well deserved. The best startups have their choice of investors and corporate venture funds are rarely at the top of that list and as a result even the best CVCs sometimes don’t get the opportunity to invest in those top startups. But recent economic conditions have dramatically reduced the supply of venture capital so this could be a golden opportunity for CVCs to get a seat at the table.
