Credit union leaders convene in Chicago

The CUNA Board of Directors had a great meeting this week in Chicago as we took stock of what the CUNA-League system has accomplished this year and made plans to capitalize on our momentum.

Board members shared stories of credit unions actively seeking out new ways to get engaged, to advocate for credit union policies, and make good on our commitment to Financial Well-being for All. They also came with plenty of honest feedback on what we can improve, which I’m always grateful for.

The board also met with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Rohit Chopra to discuss credit union priorities. Director Chopra heard from a dedicated group of credit union leaders about how we are—and always will be—the original consumer protectors.

Credit unions are eager to work with Director Chopra to right size his agency’s oversight, balancing regulatory efforts with prioritizing consumers’ needs and increasing consumer access to safe and affordable financial products and services.

Thanks to the board members for sharing their perspectives, and to Director Chopra for his time.

Credit Union Digitization Group meets in Chicago

The Credit Union System Digitization Working Group—led by CUNA EVP/Chief Engagement Officer Greg Michlig—also met in Chicago this week. The group continues to work to turn information gathered from each of the three workstreams into items credit unions can put into action. It is powerful to see these leaders from across our system come together to collaborate for the benefit of the credit union movement. Thanks to all the group members who participated this week, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Educating state lawmakers on the credit union difference

State lawmakers are just as important to our 360-degree advocacy as those on the federal level. That’s why, together with Leagues, we’ve launched a robust campaign to reach and educate state lawmakers on the credit union difference. Our efforts to drive lawmakers and staff to the Advancing Communities website has resulted in five million pageviews, a 32% increase in followers, and a 2,000% increase in site traffic!
