The credit union difference is our opportunity

The credit union difference is our opportunity

Spring is here, Opening Day is upon us, and hopefully things are getting warmer where you live. It might not seem like it, but we’re already in the second quarter of 2022.

We’re working on moving bipartisan credit union bills forward, bills we believe will revolutionize credit unions’ operating environment and expand our reach into underserved communities. Congress is out for the next two weeks, which gives us the opportunity to engage with elected officials while they’re back home in their communities. This is our chance to reinforce how credit unions serve Main Street.?

Every time we can highlight the credit union difference and back it up with data is an opportunity—a chance for us to ensure those left behind by the big banks have a trusted financial partner to help them build a strong financial future.

We need to think beyond our current members; there are so many more people we can serve. It’s our duty to reach them, and we’re their opportunity to improve their financial well-being. That’s our challenge, let’s live up to it.

Our Top Priorities

Credit unions donate $323K to CMN Hospitals at Cherry Blossom race

Thanks to the thousands of runners who participated in the “runner’s rite of Spring” last weekend at the 49th annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. Credit unions presented Children’s Miracle Network with a check for $323,000, bringing our contribution to more than $10 million over the last 20 years. MD|DC Credit Union Association President/CEO John Bratsakis welcomed runners first thing Sunday morning and CUNA’s Immediate Past Board Chair Brad Green held the finish line for the two history-making men’s and women’s finishers. And the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues participated in the Credit Union Sactown Run, which raised $200,000 for Children’s Miracle Network.

Spoiler alert: Mike shows that America’s credit unions are not only consumers’ best financial partner, they also advance the communities they serve. MCUL’s Corkery examines crypto and credit unions

Kudos to Michigan Credit Union League President/CEO Patty Corkery for her op-ed this week in CUInsight. She asks and answers the questions many of us have when we see words like “cryptocurrency” and “NFT,” while exploring credit unions’ role in these emerging technologies. Thanks to Patty for being a thought leader in this arena, and I encourage everyone to read her article.
