Credentialing Torments of Physicians

While lately embarking on a new adventure in locums, I can safely say that I am now a slave to the keyboard and Internet. Every company, every facility demands exactly the same information, but formatted each time in a uniquely evil way so that there is zero efficiency. For every site, a new log-in, a new password. No matter how long one has successfully been in practice, a fresh background check is required, a new attestation of legal history (which is already available online), a new list of every prior facility. No hospital can accept the information of a prior hospital, however recent. As a physician, I feel as if I am expected to be a secret felon, hiding some heinous crime which each new hospital has to diligently search to find. Perhaps most telling? When a hospital really needs someone, they can be given temporary credentials and start work immediately. That speaks volumes. Dear, credentialing world; can we do better? Especially in a time when we may need to move physicians around to fill gaps due to illness.

I want to do another medical staff application or, god forbid, another state licence like I want to slam my hand in the door.? States and hospitals need to agree on a central clearinghouse.? I would be happy pay for it to avoid the paperwork torture.

A problem which is ripe for a blockchain cure. Hashed Health and their partners are working on this.

Being treated like a criminal until proven otherwise. Like Bigfoot hunting. That they’ve never found one REQUIRES that they just keep looking.

I agree. Been saying for years we need a service to store this info that hospitals will all agree to accept.
