Creature? Vehicle? Looking for the next face.

Rego's Team has developed an off road hybrid vehicle with extraordinary maneuverability, designed for special units and special missions. We got to ride in the first prototype and were challenged with the mission of its design. We were looking for a character and a face that would emanate the unique qualities and performance of this vehicle. In spite of the time pressure, we went through the whole classic process of car design – endless hand sketches, and then tedious scale clay modelling.

We moved in various directions, and although constantly preaching the mantra "fail often in order to succeed sooner", actually doing it is a different kettle of fish. To be more precise – the first part is quite easy:

"Yes, we can fail often, no problem". The second bit is less obvious.

Trying to capture an expression which emanates the right dosage between aggressiveness, sophistication, futurism, solidity, agility and many more, proved to be quite sisyphic. It is easy to forget how demanding these missions are: you are moving on a very narrow path, with abyss on both sides. On your left is the danger of being boring, repetitive and anonymous, and on your right is the risk of being exaggerated, ridiculous and corny.

When we finally felt we had something worthy, we started to work closely with the developers; carefully translating the clay model into 3D computer files. At the final stage we further developed them into functioning parts that can be manufactured. The first prototype is being built.
