Welcome to Creator's Digest - a bite-sized newsletter about the creator economy. We deliver creator stories that you can digest in less than 2 minutes.
This is the 2nd edition of the new year and I'm glad you're here.
Now onto today's digest.
Introducing LazerPig
Lazerpig is a British creator who makes video essays on history. He has an infectious giggle laugh and a rabid following across the internet. With just over 250K subscribers and a fantastic Patreon page, Lazerpig has found their niche on the internet.
I actually wrote a deep dive about LazerPig in my newsletter (subscribe if you like creator stories) a few months ago where I did a deep dive on his growth, how he got to where he is and what's next.
Give that a read if you want a brief history recap.
Helping Ukraine
A few weeks ago, LazerPig made a video about being on the Gonzalo Lira roundtable. Now if you don't know who Gonzalo Lira is, that's ok. For all intensive purposes, he's a reporter and author who hosts a roundtable show and invites people to be on to discuss their perspectives. Lira is a bit of a controversial figure himself who loves getting people riled up but this article is about LazerPig.
So why did LazerPig raise $30K for Ukraine?
领英推荐
Well the simple reason is because he wanted to.
As you can see from above, the money is being used for Razom for Ukraine. LazerPig also wants to help amplify Ukrainian voices and share their stories around the world. The war is still going and even though it's not front page news as it used to be, the war is very much apparent in Ukraine. He stands vehemently against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and this fundraiser stands as a way of protest.
WARNING: Video is age-gated because LazerPig does cuss and use strong language.
Takeaways
1) Creators doing good
LazerPig raising money for Ukraine is just another example of a creator doing good for the sake of doing good. It's not for clicks or views or a giveaway, it's just for the sake of helping the Ukrainian people. There's nothing wrong with creators doing good for clicks, views, or giveaways but that type of philanthropy sometimes questions the motives of the creator. LazerPig is the opposite of that, he raised money for the sake of helping Ukraine.
2) Privacy matters
No one has seen LazerPig's face. His voice, facts, way of speaking has an avid following. Even on a Zoom call with Gonzalo Lira, he stays off camera. Voiceover creators sometimes don't grow but LazerPig is a great example of a creator who has such a strong voice and command of storytelling thru memes, short clips that you forget that you can't see his face.
