The Creator Mindset

The Creator Mindset

Our second mindset, in the Next Level Leadership Playbook, is the Creator Mindset.???

These leaders are critical AND creative thinkers.? They know how to engage the experience, energy, and expertise of those around them on problems and opportunities that need a wide perspective. ? These leaders appreciate that they don't know everything , all the time.

Leaders with a creator mindset seek to create breakthroughs in the way thinking happens on their team. ? Breakthrough thinking can be defined as an idea or approach that solves a problem or satisfies a need in an entirely new way. ? We “break through” something that was limiting our ability to move forward. ?Breakthrough thinking allows us to see and do things differently, better or understand things with a wider lens and/or deeper appreciation. Leaders with this mindset seek to expand their perspectives, embrace differences, and become friends with contradictions or competing priorities. ?

Creator Mindset - one of four mindsets for Next Leve Leaders!

They know that to create value and move themselves and others forward, they need to overcome the urge to let fear, failure, and uncertainty get in the way. ? They ask great questions, seek to gain input from a diverse group of people and work hard to stretch themselves and others beyond their comfort zone - wanting to discover what’s possible, what’s next, and what will be the next best step to take. Critics, on the other hand, tend to be more negative, less collaborative, and less effective at promoting growth and generating ideas and solutions within their teams. ? Critics tend to stop at identifying problems and shortcomings. ?

Leaders who lack a creator mindset communicate their criticism in an unhelpful manner, which leads to resistance, defensiveness, and inertia. ? ?They “polish problems'' and keep themselves or others stuck in a space of helplessness.

The next time you are faced with a problem or challenge - ask yourself: ?“What would a creator do?”?

Yes, you are creative. ? I know that to be true. Give yourself permission to be curious.
