Creativity By Word of Mouth // Screen Social : BEAT

I've been running a music & film night for 4 years now. It's called Screen Social and its ethos is to open up the proverbial floor to anyone wanting to show films, animation, motion design or some kind of visual experiment. I have a love-hate thing going with it. Love the people, the format, the brilliant work of independent creatives... hate the self-inflicted pressure and stress that running a regular niche event entails. Still, what would we be if we weren't driven by things we can't explain? 

I'm waffling. But this is why we're still going 4 years on with a new edition on Wednesday 14th October entitled BEAT, with the focus this time on spoken-word film & music. The content is good... no, it's bloody fantastic – and the live acts are even better.

Spoken word was a genre we talked about doing a while back and it's astounding just how much great work is out there. There is creativity running through the veins of these artists, who blur lines between the prepared and the improvised. Riding their own words like waves which rise and crash, sucked out to sea only to roll back with more passion. Spit, polish, wax, lyrical.
