Creativity and Service
I had a fascinating conversation last night with a friend with whom I was discussing the concept of “Ikigai.”
I have been thinking about this a lot since I’m in a bit of a transition phase, but he took a bit of a different spin on it.
He suggested that, at the end of the day, we find purpose and meaning by being of service to others and expressing our creativity.
Now, I think that this isn’t so far from what “Ikigai” is all about.
If you’re not being of service to others, on one is going to pay you for anything. Similarly, if the world doesn’t need it.
What you love-what we all love-is the opportunity to be creative and be proud of our creations.
And what we’re good at, are the things where our creativity matches our talents.
But the concept of “be of service” and “express creativity” was a very succinct way of expressing it. It’s focused and concrete.
