Creativity and Innovation
If you have ever worked in a corporate environment, you know how much leaders talk about creativity and innovation. They want more of it. They include it in their well thought out vision statements. They put it in your performance reviews to ask you to be more creative and be more innovative.
However, if you are like Joe (not his real name), you would be confused by all these messages because it seems every time he brings a new idea to the table, or attempts to lead his team down a creative path—he gets pushed from his leadership for faster results.
Add to that his high functioning Autism, and Joe finds himself struggling with all sorts of anxiety and confusion.
This is where coaching makes an impact. Coaching helps us see reality—and then take responsibility for what we can and cannot change.
Working with Joe, we were able to see the reality of the organization’s desire for results and this continual drum beat to meet results was not going to end from the senior leaders.
He also got clear about what he wanted to contribute to the team and made his own decisions about how he was going to spend his time. He was able to begin creating clear communication with his leadership about what he was going to do and what he wasn’t going to do.
He knew that if he squashed his own creativity and innovation, he would be unfulfilled.
Did you ever have this experience of feeling like what you thought would make the biggest difference for the company was the one thing you weren’t supposed to cultivate?
What did you do? Did you try to go against the grain? Did you just survive.
