Creativity is the Greatest Threat to the Status Quo

Creativity is an act of rebellion.

Each effort challenges the status quo, striving for continuous improvement.

Our clients take risks every day in many ways.

We need to get them to take educated right-brain risks.

Education supplied primarily by us. After all, it's what we sell. That's why it's up to creative professionals (not an oxymoron) to show how the riskiest thing brands can do is to steer clear of creativity.

This issue of Navigating the Fustercluck is an exploration of fighting for and freeing creativity, personally and professionally.

We Need to Promote What We're Selling. Not Just Creative, but Creativity Itself.

Not all clients see creativity as a force multiplier. Why should they? That's our business, not theirs.

Yet, like marketers before us, we do an awful job of marketing ourselves and what we do.

We assume that what we bring to the table is obvious. That everyone should understand us and our magical nonlinear creativity.

We have to become champions of the Right Brain.

Sell ourselves like we sell our clients.

Yet, for some reason, we act like we're above what we do.

Our self-loathing isn't a good look. And it gets us nowhere. We owe it to our linear clients to help them understand our nonlinear ways, and prove why the right brain is the right choice.

Creativity Requires the Courage to Let Go of Certainties.? - Erich Fromm

Certainties lead to rules. Traditions. Customs. Things you’re supposed to follow. Lines you’re not to cross. Just the kind of conformity that the great artists rebel against. For those who make their mark are the ones who open our eyes. Our minds. And sometimes even our hearts.

“You Can be Cautious or You Can be Creative, but There's No Such Thing as a Cautious Creative.”

– George Lois

You Have to Break the Rules to Breakthrough

Repeatable Methods Produce Predictable Results. This is Valuable in Manufacturing but Not in Creativity. – Martin Weigel

Innovation is created, not rolled off the assembly line. Get to know your problem inside out and then figure out how to turn it on its ear. The main reason to learn the rules so you can break them properly.

Everything You Want is on the Other Side of Hard

That’s all there is to it. Success is a challenge. Often a struggle.

There are going to be potholes?and boulders all along your journey.

Once you realize that perseverance is?as important as intelligence,

you’ll be in the right mindset to get up and over your obstacles and

move forward. To protect, promote and and help creativity and yourself prosper.
