Creativity is not a routine job. I am not an inventor or scientist or a writer. But I do write/ create the courseware content. Like BIA in BCM, ‘conceptualising and designing’ is the backbone of courseware creation. This may take a large amount of total effort spent in developing a new course.
I may have zero output for hours and days because “I am thinking about an idea”. And then I may go into hours of non-stop writing and come out with a product. And I need complete seclusion twice – once when I am thinking about the new idea (I paint full picture in my mind before I pick up the pen – yes, it has to go to the paper before the machine). This is daydreaming (I think of new ideas in the night also, by the way). I need complete quiet second time when I go to the machine to bring that idea to life.
Any interruption at any of these two stages can easily derail me by hours and days.
I review my product before publishing, but that takes comparatively less time. Conceptualising takes more time than Producing.
I have lost many ideas because I get the idea when I am on the toilet seat, and I do not like to be there with newspaper, book or phone – so by the time I am out – the idea gets vanished! I have lost a lot in this way.
