Creativity Can Be Your Ticket To Senior Management Roles!

On one of my previous flights, I got my meal with cutlery in a nice envelope. While the meal was ok, I liked the Spork, the spoon-fork combination.
When you have an 8X10 inch tray, saving space without compromising functionality is a good thing, not to mention the cost savings. Of course, it is not new, but it caught my attention.
In the world of frugal innovation today, it is a must to have creativity in any job. Yet, creativity is multi-dimensional. It comes with both breadth and depth of knowledge and skills.
How to build creativity?
Let me explain this in our day-to-day context and how to build creativity. Often, we shrug off creativity as we associate it with art. Creativity helps in problem-solving related to clients, strategy, planning, business models and processes, technology and people.
You can build creativity on the job in two different ways:
1] Work in a cross-functional role
When one works in a cross-functional team, one gets to see many competencies in a single project and learn from each other. One has to be creative to solve problems across functions and stakeholders.
2] Develop full-stack capabilities going beyond role-silos
When one has a full-stack capability (Tech, Marketing, Finance or any function) or works on an end-to-end project, learning becomes manifold, and creativity leaps.
Next time you get on a project, don’t focus on the ease of delivery only. Pay attention to the role richness and if can help you in building creative thinking.
Please remember, once you move up the ladder, you will not be able to sustain without a "strategic mindset".
