Creativity

I suppose I should say Hello first. Life has been busy and I have a few new experiences to think about.
People seem to think I am creative. I even had a phone call where the other person said he can hear I have a "kuns klap". Afrikaners and Dutch people will understand this. And I am sure they are right. I am creative.
Recently I attended a meeting where we looked at the work of some students making jewelry. The lecturer said that most of them will not work in the jewelry industry and the ones that do, will loose their creativity when they start working for a big jeweler. That is so sad. But the jeweler knows what sells and that is why they are in business.
This brings me to my other point. I also read an article asking: "what is the the most important thing in business?". And my first thought was that the most important thing is to listen to your client. You will not sell something if someone doesn't want it.
So how do we stay true to ourselves and make clients happy? Some artists get it right and can sell their work for a lot of money, but I notice that they have a style and stick to it.
Maybe years of experience and good marketing has something to do with it?
From personal experience I can tell you that the amount of money you have does not change your creativity. It may change what you are creative with, e.g. working with recycled items instead of importing or buying materials.
I don't have all the answers. I just know that I will die trying to make the world more beautiful. And one of the ways that this is done, is by including unknown artists to work with me and together we create items that the corporate world wants. This also happens to put food on the table for families, pay school fees and much more.
I hope you have a great day and take a minute to appreciate the creativity around you. People are everywhere and so is art.
