Creativity in 2020

Creativity in 2020

Now, more than ever before the world needs creativity and creative individuals. The problems being faced are new and we are not familiar with them. The tried and tested won't do much good in many aspects. "If we do what we have been doing we will get what have always got." What we need therefore is the ability to think differently, say "Out of the box"!

There are well-established boxes or conventional norms in every job or profession in which people try to fit themselves to the T. We have convinced ourselves it has been this way and it will always be so, let's stick with that, and that's about it! As a result, many companies failed to creatively adapt themselves with the changing tides. Some familiar examples cited are Nokia, Kodak, Xerox, Yahoo, etc.

But seldom do we realize the options and underlying opportunity available. Those that do can make it big. Some radically innovative companies, then start-ups, that were founded during the surrounding period of the 2008 financial crisis are WhatsApp, Instagram, Pinterest, Venmo, Uber, etc.

There would be many different problems which perhaps the entrepreneur individual would be best suited to solve. And of course, it won't be an easy task especially without experience and that renders the guidance of people who have knowledge and experience in the sectors/domains in which you plan to move into quite necessary.

7 Key advantages of employing creativity are:

  1. Creative people have much less fear because creativity is an optimistic state towards finding solutions and creating something; while its absence is referring to what is happening or the way things have been and no power to change them whatsoever towards what we desire.
  2. Creative people also have the freedom to think or rather given themselves the freedom to think the way they would want to which also helps relieves us of many unnecessary limitations.
  3. Creativity is similar to a muscle which improves with usage and somewhat atrophies without it.
  4. It can provide rather simple but ingenious solutions to problems being faced. So inputs from different people can prove to be helpful in an organization.
  5. The big stimulus for creativity is, therefore, the freedom to make mistakes while learning from feedback at the same time not being inhibited by self-doubt, of course well within moral and legal boundaries but persistently trying something new, different or better all the time making the world a better place.
  6. Creative people and innovative companies have less competition and even if there would be competition they could always come up with something new instead.
  7. Creativity is fun!

Those were some of the key advantages I have found. Though there would be many more. In my experience personally, creativity has helped me right from my early school years: from academically remembering things I have learnt, to thinking differently and understanding them better. From using creative examples in speeches to finding solutions to reduce work and improve efficiency. I have used it in writing and even in sports.

To sum it up to its been a delight and I would happily continue to do so in the future.

Those were my thoughts on it. If you have enjoyed reading this article and it has helped you in any way, feel free to share your thoughts, ideas and insights in the comments below.

Well, I agree with all you have written, but recently I came across a statement by Dean Simonton, a distinguished professor of Psychology, which goes like "What is especially fascinating is that creative individuals are not apparently capable of improving their success rate with experience or enhanced expertise, Creative persons, even the so-called geniuses, cannot ever foresee which of their intellectual or aesthetic creations will win acclaim." This statement seem to contradict your third point. It's difficult to accept this fact put forth by this professor as I concur with your thoughts. If I may have misunderstood do you mean to say that to maximize creative success is by producing more experiments? I would definitely like to hear your view on this.

Very nicely said by Sarthak, I think, when your work becomes your passion, then it leads to creativity. Any work can be creative.

Very correct in stating that creativity can be developed ... that is why the workshop on Innovation considers pumping the brain ?? as a critical part of the workshop. All the best at #Atmannovation #mind...lessness to #Innovate

The writing was really simple and informative!! As Suraj Nair said, that creativity is a muscle that can be trained, I totally agree to it!
