Creative Visionaries Will Save Our World

A few weeks ago, I had the pure joy of witnessing my son's graduation from Miami University of Ohio, Creative Arts Department.   And in the true spirit of the day, I was greatly inspired.   The key speaker, Daniel Levy (https://www.daniellevymusic.com/) spoke to the role CREATIVES play in the future of our planet; the source of our advancement as a society.  A powerful message for the 300 seniors in the arena - all waiting to 'commence'.

I was glued to my chair while Levy validated those who live in the tempo of artistry; affirming that creation - and its dynamic process - is the root to all things invented and inspired across all sectors:  science, culture, education, faith, business, family and community.    Artistry isn't just a singular profession - it is a mindset and a way of being that embodies the definition of inspiration.

More importantly, and often forgotten, creativity is FREE because it is an in-born characteristic in every human being.  Thus, it serves as a musical homily that weaves through all of life and into everything we do, if we allow it.  Even more, it is the solution synergy for all problems across the globe.

For me, creativity is salvation.  During my most challenging years as a single parent - when conditions of poverty bore down for nearly 8 years - creativity suspended the psychic weight of financial struggle and ALL us believed we were rich.  Dancing, painting, designing, story telling, singing, writing, and an endless array scientific experiments filled our home on a daily basis.  Even the hardship of finding food, work, and networks of support demanded intense creativity.  Yes, in no small measure, creativity enabled my family to move beyond psychological and financial poverty and into the realization that true wealth starts within.  From this enlightenment, financial success is icing on the cake. 

The thrill among the graduates was palpable that day; all eager to dash forward into the unknown and even more excited to make something out of the mystery and chaos of life.  And my son - opera singer, arts educator, composer, conductor, dramatist, manager, poet, humanitarian and business visionary - literally danced out the door.   I know he believes that continuous imagining - alongside intentional action - is the recipe the world is starving for and the alchemy of a truly successful life.  And he is right: research supports that only through creativity can we move into our greatest potential.      Free is good.
