Ruhan Qaiser is a Manchester-based marketing executive, currently promoting luxury, prestigious cars on numerous social media platforms while working at a car dealership. Ruhan was raised in London and had an early interest in filmmaking after viewing web content. Combining his two interests , he began photographing vehicles around London, which turned into a side profession while he was in school and helped him build a strong body of work.

?? Lesson from Ruhan's episode

  • Exceed the expectations

“If you’re applying for a job and they ask you to make a video, definitely do that. But also take a few pictures and attach them to your CV as well. Just go a bit above and beyond what they would expect. Not too much though, like don’t make five different videos and bombard them but go a little bit extra.”

? Questions worth pondering about:

  • Can you recall an example of when you exceeded the expectations?
  • What was the result of it?
  • What's the next situation when you can do the extra work to stand out?

??? Podcast updates:

Excited to bring you an update about the SkillShare class that I have been working on, which is that the class is published now! It's called "The 10 Tips on How to Succeed in Creative Industries " where I'll present 10 lessons from the podcast along with some details, personal experiences and ideas on how to address them. In total, it is between 20-30 minutes long, divided into separate 2-3 minute videos and there is a class project for students to complete. After each lesson, the student is prompted to reflect on the relevant tip as a part of his or her "action plan ". Below, you can have a look at the "Tomas' action plan example" that serves as an inspiration.

The 10 Tips on How to Succeed in Creative Industries - Class Project Example

Although it may not seem like that there's been more work behind it than one would expect. As of writing this, I published the class just a few days ago and I'm awaiting some final feedback. However, it's public now so you can have a look (and hopefully sign up!) now. Soon, I'll make sure to have some freebies for you, dear loyal listeners, supporters and friends. I sincerely hope the class will provide some guidance, motivation and a sense of direction to the students and will empower them to pursue their, not only creative, dreams. Also, it is not me preaching some lessons that I think would be useful. But those are the lessons that I've distilled from the podcast episodes from our amazing guests. Needless to mention if you think someone could benefit from taking this class, don't hesitate to spread the word. Thanks and don't forget to let me know what you think! ??

?? Update N2:

I'll start by sharing a bit of context. After finishing my bachelor's in film I continued with a master's in business. As a part of the course I began developing the business idea that I came up with after my both filmmaking and business experience. The idea was to build an online platform for filmmakers that would provide various film-related resources in one place along with an online network for creatives to connect. For a better understanding, I like to use the following slogan "Expedia.com mixed with LinkedIn.com for filmmakers". Primarily, the goal was to make the whole production process simple, effective and enjoyable. Due to various reasons and circumstances, I abandoned the development but recently returned to it, hoping I could finally make it a reality. Although it's not ready yet I'm really excited about this and wanted to share the news. I think I will incorporate the new section into this newsletter where I'll be posting updates about the platform. Soon, I'll bring more updates and I hope that I made you excited enough to register when it's ready! ??

?? Idea worth sharing

Let's start with a question and a short history lesson. Which one of the following scenarios do you think would be more efficient? Every employee of Henry Ford , the founder of Ford Motor Company, builds one car and then moves to another one. Or each employee is responsible for a certain part of the production, doing the same task on various cars. If you guessed the second example, you correctly identified the Batching Method !

It helps to reduce or even eliminate context switching, which would lead to decreased productivity. It's no surprise that multitasking, where we constantly jump from task to task, leads to a drop in productivity as our brains need to keep stopping and refocusing on different activities.

But remember, it's not about becoming a robot. Rather, it should help you to find the patterns in your daily life and take advantage of them so that you have more time for other things. Fun fact, the assembly line mentioned above was indeed pioneered by Henry Ford. So in what areas of your life can you use this technique? Feel free to comment below and inspire others! ??
