Creative: Source of a Story

“Just one foot on the floor,” I whisper.

“OK. Now, the other.”

Feet firmly planted next to the bed, I sit straight.

Without a sound, Silence cups my cheek, her palm a balm.

Pressed upon my lips, her finger lingers.

With raised eyebrow, she smirks. “Shhhh...” she silently suggests.

Storm pressed, the house moans.

Marching up bare arms, hairs stand at attention.

I shiver.

With a shrug, Silence tugs.

Lights off, and remaining off, Darkness takes my hand,

Guiding me to the calm before the sweep away of the workday;

Before the sweep away of everyday.

Floorboards sigh as our triumvirate passes.

Looking over her shoulder, Darkness shimmers.

Through rippled glass, lancing light of Luna winks a wonderous welcome.

Marching Moon across the sky casts her spotlight on running rabbits,

A comet’s tail of snow sparkles in their wake.

The winged song of Wind prompts Silence to take her leave.

Gracefully, my companion bids me adieu.

The simple sway of trees.

Last of leaves, gliding to an unknown future.?“I can fly!” they cry, “I can fly!”

Tiny tilt of thermostat’s red arm sets sail the soft scent of uncoiling warmth.

Pipes groan, urging heat toward entropy.

The daily grind of coffee, an inkling gathered by flared nostrils.

Kitchen candle, respectfully asking Luna to join in a dance of flickers along the wall.

Thick fur, the dog’s soft breaths warm a neck craned to gather a wordless embrace.

Cat’s purr, her neck craned as well.

The scratch of vinyl soon joined by drifting notes, not so loud as to wake those still sleeping.

Imagination ignites from the match of mingling memories, the smoke uncoiling into the scribbles of a story.

The smell of a book.

The day starts, as the only moment available unfolds.

This moment, so wonderous, so breathtakingly beautiful,

So worth the price of the sweep away of everyday,

So worth the price of awareness.

I press on.

For in this moment, I am alive.
