Creative Negativity
I find one great source of creativity is finding unfamiliar opposites ideas that generate creative possibilities.
I share few examples of what I mean.
Negative Pressure- refers a place where pressure is lesser in one place relative to another place. This pressure allows trees to transfer water from roots to the top leaves even on top.
Negative Numbers- these are based on the square root of -1. Mandelbrot identified the fractal and its breakthrough concept using this number.
Negative Negativity- I showed how negative thinking coupled with negative feelings may lead to stressing the body rapidly. The combination of two negative feelings such as feeling of guilt and despair may accelerate rapidly this process.
One more example is our experiencing negative thinking associated with anxiety and depression and their terrible consequences.
Negative Reality- this is not about true or false. It due to our background on positive reality, which is not real.
Negative Assumptions- it starts when we believe something is true with no proof or validation. This hinders our thinking ability.
Negative Illusion- this is an optical illusion where we can see the inverted image. How many times we tend to see the inverted form of reality? This may serve as another definition of negative reality
Negative Self-Concept- this refers to people who have negative perception to themselves. Those people think they are beyond criticism and hunt only for praise.
Creative ideas and concept are possible by adding the word negative to the familiar positive.

4 个月Great thoughts and insightful Ali Anani, PhD Wonderful to see so many metaphors in the post and comments. Personally, my own negative self-concept lead to my evolution. Negative experiences built resilience and paved way for my progress. Any atom is made of both negative (electron) and positive (proton). In logical circuits, we need NAND, NOR gates too despite AND, OR gates for navigation. Your mention "great source of creativity is finding unfamiliar opposites ideas that generate creative possibilities" was just amazing and beyond imagination; we can recall several opposing theories in the human era like Aristotle Vs Plato, Newton Vs Einstein, Rutherford Vs Bohr and goes on. In Biology, maintenance of homeostasis usually involves Negative feedback loops. These loops act to oppose the stimulus, or cue, that triggers them. For example, if your body temperature is too high, a negative feedback loop will act to bring it back down towards the set point. “The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics defines the ultimate purpose of life, mind, and human striving: to deploy energy and information to fight back the tide of entropy and carve out refuges of beneficial order.” — Steven Pinker (Enlightenment Now)

4 个月One more example the comments reminded me is water, which has a slight negative charge on oxygen and a slight positive charge on the hydrogen atom. This dual positive-negatives charge resulted in huge different behavior of water than other molecules including surface tension. The negative charge helps in reducing the harm caused by radicals in our bodies.

4 个月The ordeal with words is they throw us in a fix …. As such words mean different things to different people and now adding the term “negative”… honestly I got a headache reading through them.. when life can be simple why complicate… What would a life be with lesser words …. With nothing much to speak …yet getting the intent at the end of each correspondence…!!! That’s my take ! Shambho
