Creative Musings: Taylor Sheridan’s Unique Approach to Worldbuilding

How prolific and incredible is Taylor Sheridan?

He epitomises everything that’s great in a writer.

?I’m constantly awestruck by the depth and scale of his storytelling and his ability to switch genres.

From?Yellowstone’s sepia cowboy country (spot the Taylor cameos), to the gritty, unsettling world of?The Mayor of Kingstown and?Tulsa King’s glorious in-between (not to mention movie screenplays like Sicario), Taylor’s multi-layered, provocative plotlines and beautifully drawn characters are in a word – awesome. Is anyone doing epic drama series better??

The series’ title sequences are gorgeous too, as is the sound design, acting and direction. Great writing attracts great talent though, which just adds to the production value pile up, but it all begins with…say it with me…

The writing

Taylor Sheridan’s strong female characters also resonate brilliantly. Yellowstone’s Beth Dutton is an all-time favourite and if you need any further proof, checkout Lioness – now in its 2nd?season – showcasing Sheridan’s skill in yet another genre.

Too often, people in our creative industries (Marketing/Advertising/Corporate Comms) are minimising the role of writers, charging the creative process to designers alone, which is not only unfair on the designers, but also sidelines our incredible copywriters and their huge impact on the ideation process. But ignore them at your peril and the detriment of the job. And when you find a good one grab them and don’t let go (not literally obviously, that would be bad).?

Good writers are our gods and should be celebrated, their stories are the lifeblood of creativity.

Taylor Sheridan, we salute you (you also seem to know a lot of serious people, so we’re a little bit scared)
