The Creative Journey: Meet the Mind Behind the SiteMinder Hackathon 2023 Logo

Ahead of the annual SiteMinder Hackathon next week, we had the opportunity to sit down with Charlotte Mae Efren , one of our senior product designers, based in the Philippines. Charlotte is the brilliant mind behind this year’s hackathon logo design, and we were eager to delve into the significance it holds.

Like all great technology, the design looks simple, but we know it conceals a bigger message. Tell us about it.?

That’s right. The owl symbolises all of us at SiteMinder, the wisdom behind our platform. A lot of late nights and dedication go into making our product exceptional – even if all of that work doesn’t get seen. Our product is a true labour of love behind the scenes.

Can you walk us through the creative process behind the design?

The creative process behind the design was an exciting journey. Initially, I explored more traditional ‘techy’ symbols like cogs and gears, but we didn’t want to limit ourselves to the stereotypes. So, I asked myself, “What type of shirt would our team want to wear?” The answer was clear: something friendly and more ‘us’, while embodying the true spirit of a hackathon.

I hope all of this year’s participants respond to the design with delight and warmth! It will be so great to see everyone wearing it proudly, and to have it sparking conversations about the magic of technology and collaborative problem-solving.?

What inspired the design?

None other than Harry Potter, of course! In the wizarding world, owls are more than just mail carriers; they possess unique personalities and represent wisdom, just like our platform.?

What are you looking forward to most about the SiteMinder Hackathon?

The hackathon will be an entirely new experience for me and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m looking forward to creating without hesitation, from weird to useful. I’m also excited to be teaming up with different, innovative minds, thinking out-of-the-box and having a blast together.?
