Creative Flow
‘I’m not creative’ - Someone said to me the other day. Along with, ‘I don’t know what love is’. Now that was two big whammies in one go. Where to start?
Let's start with the Creativity piece. Does it come easily to you? Do you find it flows naturally through you, or do you have to ‘effort’ to tap into your creative side ? Some people are typically more left or right-brain-centred of course.?
Not only can creativity nourish you, your Soul, and those around you, but it also acts as a form of service to inspire. In the past, I have been told that not sharing your creativity is a form of ‘opposite arrogance’, whereby you’re not shining your light, you are keeping it to yourself, under the bushel! Thus creative ones are often in a position whereby they ‘have to’ force themselves ‘out there’ in a bid to express themselves - regardless of the reaction/s to said creation.
Interestingly ‘Creatives’ (as I like to lump the community together) can often recognise (pretty swiftly) what creativity is not. Clip art and stiff restrictions aside, creativity is usually a true, free-form, or original expression and interpretation without the need for approval. Accepting and embracing one’s own creativity isn’t necessarily a process or a procedure that can be repeated, or learned by traditional means. It is more of a feeling, that requires a depth of ‘inner work’, and inner conversations with yourself, to allow it to happen.?
In a society that seems to thrive on externalised rewards, such as successes /accolades in the 3D, be they material, physical, academic and so on. It’s actually the opposite of those very things that are true creativity. Introversion. The quiet, small spaces of expressive genius which get the world thinking anew, hoping, and turning at a slightly softer angle.???

Historically creativity has been used as a driving force for making ‘new’ things happen. Think about the ‘Pop Art’ movement, or Da Vinci’s work to drive a Renaissance of change around the world, especially in what we knew about anatomy and mechanical thinking.?
Today still, (whilst ridiculously underfunded given their healing capacities) we can be grateful that the arts and creativity still exist and haven’t been completely drowned out by man’s urgent search for patriarchal destruction.???
So in terms of the ‘I’m not creative’, I’d steer towards the camp that concludes everyone has inherent gifts - whether towards poetry, art, music, writing, film, theatre etc. These gifts do need uncovering. As a Transpersonal Art Therapist, with two Science degrees, I also wouldn’t discount the role of creativity in coding, developer-land, or engineering. Have you seen the Hydron Cullander it’s beautiful! Perfect for kicking off a mandala session to start a ‘what is love’ conversation!?
