Welcome back to another edition of The Remote Creatives newsletter!
Back in 2021, I wrote an article for influencer marketing site, Hello Partner, about how creator events had changed. And at the time, I emphasised something that feels even more relevant today: "the thing about an industry that began on social media, is the importance of just that: 'social' activity." Looking back at that piece now, it's fascinating to see how some things have changed, and how others took unexpected turns.
Events had taken a massive hit back then and the virtual event fatigue was getting real, but we would eventually come out of this and look for more social and community space than ever. So what does that look like for not only creatives, but remote creatives, in 2025:
1. The Return to Human-Centred Experiences: This year's most successful events will prioritise meaningful conversations and skill-sharing. The "instagrammable moments" haven't disappeared, but they're now organic outcomes of genuine connection and connection building.
2. Community Building Over Metrics: In 2021, I wrote about the obsession with measurable results: "the mentions, the impressions, the reach." And while these metrics haven't disappeared, there's been a refreshing pivot toward valuing the "non-measureables": inspiration, creativity and connection. Events that focus on fostering long-term community engagement rather than just short-term metrics will have more sustainable success.
3. The Evolution of Brand Presence: Brands that have been able to find a way to bring their vision to life beyond business cards and leaflets, I believe, will continue to have the best reach and engagement. Whether it's creating AI immersive experiences, or hosting mini events that capture the essence of their mission.
4. Hybrid Models That Actually Work: While we might have been questioning whether virtual events would last back in 2021, I believe there is still a way to balance both in-person and virtual gatherings successfully for the benefit of audiences local and further afield.
5. The Rise of Specialised Gatherings: With the help of platforms like TikTok and LinkedIn, people have been able to connect with others interested in similar, and sometimes more niche, interests and industries. From book clubs to regency-era themed balls, and many other incredible gatherings, creatives of various interests have found their people. And I believe brands that can tap into this and continue to foster their relationship with their community, will have the most sustainable outcomes.
Your Turn: How have events changed for you since 2021? What has been your favourite gathering, and what made it stand out for you?

Overall, we're still keeping things relatively low key, easing our way into the new year but things are already picking up (and with speed). We've been keeping cosy in the Ericeira storms and enjoying different meet ups with remote workers and entrepreneurs - but you can read more about that in the blog post above.
