“The Creative Edge” A perspective from Faith

“Bereshit Bara Elohim Et Ha-Shamaim V-Et Ha-Aretz; In the beginning, God created!” (Genesis 1:1 in Hebrew)

It is said that the world is run by people of convictions and my convictions of the undisputable essence of the creative industry develop from the roots of my faith. As a Christian, there have been a lot of controversies around faith and all the existing religions. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on where you stand in faith), this is not a write up to school you on the theologies of faith and religion, rather to fully express my deep interest in the creative industry as a direct product of a creative God and the reason why we need more creative economies to sustainably develop the world.

R. Alan Woods once said, “Knowledge and understanding mixed with one's convictions of experience is hardly impositional”.

With that in mind, I hardly impose my conviction that since God, the best creator made us in his image, then we are by nature creative beings with an indefinite creative ability. This I also believe is the reason why economies should be focusing more on the people who have chosen to fully explore their creative edge potentials, what we popularly call the “Creatives”.

There is nothing as creative and intriguing as life and nature. Every creative work stems from the creation of God and it is extremely fascinating. There is more to the creativity of who we are and the world in which we find ourselves. How a clot of blood becomes bones, nails, flesh, eyes, brains, tendons and ligaments, as well as blood and water is unfathomable enough to have doctors, surgeons, researchers and other medical practitioners of all scientific fields. The seasons and times with regards to sowing and harvest times are enough to have farmers, accountants and investment experts. The ever changing species of living organisms, birds and mammals with its unexplainable passage from conception to death is the very core of today’s change; technology.

The creativity that we seek today and will seek tomorrow is all in life and nature. From the way the sun sets to give a sight worthy of inspiration to an artist and a photographer, to how natural sounds of birds, winds, trees and waters give musical ideas to an artiste, to the patterns on the ground after a rainfall that gives immense ideas to a well-eyed architect and landscaping expert. Name your pick, from archaeology to zoology, music to dance, sketches to patterns and designs, ideas to accomplishments, they all have one thing in common; it all came from life and nature and they work for everything living both static and evolving.

To think that all of these amazing things emanated from “In the beginning, God created” makes the Creation story even more fascinating to me and has overtime formed the foundations of my focus on the creative industry. Creativity brings everything into being. Nothing would be in existence if not created and nothing will be improved without innovation. Now I may not know much or read many books, I may not have traveled the world to experience what is out there in all the different places as I see on screens, but one thing I know and one thing that no one can also take away from me are my experiences and my experiences have deepened my convictions in my faith. It is enough Evidence existing in a natural creative content form. It empowers us to be Accountable for how we sustain, maintain and grow it further. It has also given us the biggest power ever; Power to tell the stories that actually matter.
