Creative Distraction

Have you ever found yourself stuck? Trying to solve a problem but nothing is coming?
Sometimes you need to find a creative distraction. Do something unrelated and challenging in a new area.
A couple of weeks ago after spending a lot of time doing corporate branding, webdesign, coaching and consulting I realized I needed a creative stretch, an artistic deep breath.
So I took a Facebook cover image from a Group I'm a part of and decided to reimagine it using photography.
It was not a paid project, there were no ulterior motives. I saw it as an opportunity to do something outside of the category of the things I was already doing. It helped. I was able to go back to the regular tasks with a revived energy because my mental muscles had a fresh workout.
I shared the image with the owner of the group Marc Mawhinney. I just gave it to him.
I want to challenge you. Take a moment to exercise your mind in an area different to what you're doing right now. It might not even be creative like mine. Just different.
Ideas:
- From where you're sitting right now. Take out your phone and take some creative shots. Close ups, creative angles or abstract.
- Write a haiku
- Imagine your current job was as a super hero and describe what you do in heroic terms
- Do a quick scribble and then try to turn it into something
- Write a love song to your spouse
- Imagine funky icecream flavor combinations
Try it. Let me know how it goes.
