Creative Cropping
When briefing a photographer it is very important that they fully understand how the images that you are commissioning are going to be used. Do you require images to be landscape or vertical format? Are the images going to be used for print or web use or both!
Many websites are formatted in such away that they use wide banner images in a proportion 3:1 or 4:1 on the home page.
When I'm setting up the camera I check to see if the image that I'm going to take will work in vertical and horizontal format. If so I will shoot both as I know that I have provided my client with a great deal of flexibility. Landscape and Vertical images can both be cropped to provide a square, landscape and panoramic banner image options.
Whenever I am commissioned to photograph an interior I like to give my clients options and will often suggest how they might want to crop images.
