Creative Catnap Newsletter 3: The Power of Thought Association

Hi Creative Catnappers!

While most people think logically, which is a linear process, creative people jump from one point to another with no rhyme and reason.

Creative thinking often employs its own logic, the logic of association. Let me explain with an interesting example.

Recently, I saw this funny picture. Unlike those perfect body type mannequins, this one is more realistic. And that's what brings a smile on our face.

This picture triggered my curiosity to find more of such mannequins. Creative ones. Those which doesn't confirm to the routine.

Here are some that I liked.

And I also found this interesting thing about Mannequin Mapping. A projection technique that creates amazing effects on bare mannequins.

That's how a creative mind works. We just jump from one point to another. Collecting information, and then connecting them together.

But there is also another dimension to this story...

When I shared the same picture with a friend, it reminded him of his 'Hitler' boss! One with a paunch. And that reminded him of a quote that was used by their team--

There are two sides to an argument.
Boss's side and outside!

And then he shared with me a cartoon. Obviously, about the boss. Perhaps the same boss.

Now, the same picture triggered different chains of thoughts in our minds. You might associate it with something else.

That's how creative association works. From paunch to a boss, from boss to Hitler. From Hitler, we can go to World War II. And that may lead us to Star Wars....Which could take us to...

You know the possibilities are infinite!
