Be creative
This week, I want to focus on creativity! When was the last time you indulged yourself in a creative endeavour? Cooking seems to be a popular creative outlet now as many of us are spending more time at home, which is a benefit! But our creative sides often get pushed to the sidelines. And that’s a shame, because creativity is so closely connected to our sense of self-fulfillment. Creativity also helps us to experience the magical and playful side of life, which most of us can definitely benefit from right now!
In my case, my top creative passion is gardening. Peonies, Lady’s Mantles and Lilies of the Valley are making their debut in my backyard as I write this message, and they are exquisite … each and every bloom. Gardening is very grounding (pun intended), and I get excited just knowing that I’ll be outdoors getting my hands dirty. Furthermore, right now, just being out in my yard gives me an enormous amount of peace!
Think about your own creative passions. Sadly, many of us don’t even consider ourselves creative, particularly if we don’t take part in those quintessential “creative” activities, such as writing, painting or playing musical instruments. They are all admirable creative outlets, but I want to stress that creativity involves so much more! Each and every one of us has a creative side just waiting for the opportunity to shine. I feel very strongly about this point, and encourage everyone to engage and share in the many ways they can be creative.
Creative expression can be as simple and spontaneous as singing in the shower or the car. It can be a playful moment of dancing in your living room, making up a silly limerick or strumming chords on a guitar. It can also be a more directed and focused activity, such as sewing a quilt, arranging flowers, cooking an exceptional meal or making your home a special, comfortable place just for you and your family.
So, this week I’d like you to think about how you express your creativity. If it’s been a while for you, I hope you’ll let your inner “artist” speak! There’s no excuse not to! Just open yourself up to the possibilities around you, and find ways to explore, nurture and enjoy your creative side!
