When losing a client can be positive!
Writing a book is one thing but getting it out to the world is another and that is why the choice of a publisher must be right. When writing my first book, I knew little about publishing and, due to my impetuous nature, did not investigate enough before employing someone that may have offered more.? With the second book, having learned so many? lessons,? I? was? fortunate? via an introduction from a friend to find an absolutely fantastic gentleman named Mark, who has many, many years of experience in the book industry and, in particular, self-publishing.
Thankfully, in my case, I had Mark who works tirelessly for all his authors. He is a man of integrity and one that has one thought in mind when taking on a book: to make it a success.
We want all of our books to be a success, and have spent more time on LinkedIn, (following advice in Mark's book 50 strategies for boosting book sales) sharing our story, sharing our knowledge, and looking for those that might be interested.? We happened to notice someone on LinkedIn that had replied to our post who was in the publishing industry and was clearly interested in helping us to make progress.? After a very long telephone conversation with many questions and lots of honest answers, we knew we could not turn down an offer to have our book published by someone who is not only a very successful publisher, but someone that has the practical experience of working in special educational needs for over twenty years.
Our next task was to explain to Mark why we had made a decision to change. We were worried as we awaited his reply but to our delight, it was not a reply condemning us but one wishing us well for the future. We are most grateful to that gentleman for accepting our decision, one that we now hope will make a difference, grow a legacy and put our ‘Tell It As It Is’ books on the shelves of many bookshops and compel many to add them to their own home libraries.

Losing a client because the advice we gave them has led to a publishing deal, which is actually a positive outcome, although initially it felt bittersweet after helping them with their first two books.
