What is stopping from writing a book?

The reasons that might stop someone from writing a book can vary greatly depending on the individual, but here are some common obstacles:

  1. Lack of Time: Life responsibilities like work, family, or other commitments can make it hard to find the time to write consistently.
  2. Self-Doubt: Many aspiring writers struggle with the fear that their ideas aren’t good enough or that they won't be able to finish the book.
  3. Perfectionism: The desire for everything to be perfect can lead to procrastination or never feeling ready to begin.
  4. Lack of Confidence: Fear of criticism or rejection from readers, publishers, or the public can be intimidating.
  5. Uncertainty About How to Start: Some people struggle to begin writing because they don’t know where or how to begin—whether it’s finding a concept, crafting an outline, or deciding on the genre.
  6. Writer's Block: Facing a creative block can make it hard to progress with writing, even when you have the time.
  7. Procrastination: It’s easy to put things off, especially when the task seems daunting or overwhelming.
  8. Inadequate Writing Skills: Some people may feel they lack the necessary writing skills or experience to produce a book.
  9. Lack of Motivation: Writing a book requires long-term commitment, and without strong motivation, it can be hard to stay on track.
  10. Financial Concerns: Some individuals might be concerned about the costs involved in publishing or fear they won't be able to make a living from their writing.

Overcoming these challenges often requires discipline, encouragement, and sometimes external support, we can help you with all these concerns and bring your book to life and into the hands of readers worldwide.

When losing a client can be positive!

Writing a book is one thing but getting it out to the world is another and that is why the choice of a publisher must be right. When writing my first book, I knew little about publishing and, due to my impetuous nature, did not investigate enough before employing someone that may have offered more.? With the second book, having learned so many? lessons,? I? was? fortunate? via an introduction from a friend to find an absolutely fantastic gentleman named Mark, who has many, many years of experience in the book industry and, in particular, self-publishing.

Thankfully, in my case, I had Mark who works tirelessly for all his authors. He is a man of integrity and one that has one thought in mind when taking on a book: to make it a success.

We want all of our books to be a success, and have spent more time on LinkedIn, (following advice in Mark's book 50 strategies for boosting book sales) sharing our story, sharing our knowledge, and looking for those that might be interested.? We happened to notice someone on LinkedIn that had replied to our post who was in the publishing industry and was clearly interested in helping us to make progress.? After a very long telephone conversation with many questions and lots of honest answers, we knew we could not turn down an offer to have our book published by someone who is not only a very successful publisher, but someone that has the practical experience of working in special educational needs for over twenty years.

Our next task was to explain to Mark why we had made a decision to change. We were worried as we awaited his reply but to our delight, it was not a reply condemning us but one wishing us well for the future. We are most grateful to that gentleman for accepting our decision, one that we now hope will make a difference, grow a legacy and put our ‘Tell It As It Is’ books on the shelves of many bookshops and compel many to add them to their own home libraries.

Losing a client because the advice we gave them has led to a publishing deal, which is actually a positive outcome, although initially it felt bittersweet after helping them with their first two books.

Here's how I positively looked at this situation:

  1. Celebrate their success: Our advice has contributed to them securing a publishing deal, it’s a huge achievement. It means our expertise played a key role in helping them reach a significant milestone. A publishing deal is a major step forward, and our guidance helped them get there. We’ve had a direct impact on their success, which is something to be proud of.
  2. Reflect on the value you provided: This situation shows that our advice was truly valuable, so take the time to reflect on the strategies and insights you offered that helped them land the deal. This not only validates our skills but can also help you refine your approach for future clients.
  3. Strengthen your reputation: Helping someone secure a publishing deal is a powerful addition to your portfolio. It's an example of our effectiveness, and could attract more clients who are looking for similar results. We can use this success story to highlight our expertise when reaching out to new clients or in marketing materials.
  4. Consider long-term relationships: Just because our client has secured a publishing deal doesn’t mean our role with them is over. They might need ongoing support as they navigate the next steps of their publishing journey, or we could be involved in other aspects of their journey, such as promotion, marketing, or future writing projects. Stay in touch and maintain a positive relationship for potential future collaborations.
  5. Expand your service offerings: If you regularly help clients achieve big goals like securing publishing deals, you might want to consider broadening your offerings. You could create packages or services specifically tailored to helping people get published, or offer higher-level consultancy to guide them through the more advanced stages of their career.

Ultimately, losing a client because they’ve reached a new level of success, such as landing a publishing deal, is a sign that your advice was invaluable and that you helped them achieve something significant. It's a win for both you and your client, and while it may be the end of one chapter, it opens up new possibilities for future growth and success.

In short, writing a book is a multifaceted endeavour that can benefit your personal growth, career, and legacy, while also contributing to a wider community of readers and thinkers.
