Creation of Planned order with Supply creation based confirmation (SBC) with Advanced ATP (aATP) and embedded PPDS in SAP S/HANA 2022 release

SAP has an application APO (Advanced planner & optimization) which is being sunset. Advanced Availability to promise in S/4HANA is a successor of APO’s Global Availability to promise (GATP). Refer my blog https://blogs.sap.com/2017/05/22/future-of-apo-and-its-migration/ for more details on it.

Advanced Availability to promise (aATP) is being built from scratch by SAP unlike PPDS , EWM & TM which have been embedded in S/4HANA. aATP is evolving in every release since its initial release in S/4HANA 1610 and is expected to provide feature parity with APO GATP . aATP has very powerful features (like Simple, easy to use , most of the transactions & settings in Fiori app , less customization etc) and very rich functionalities as described in my SAP Press Book (Ebite) titled ‘Introducing Advanced ATP (aATP) in SAP S/4HANA’ as in link https://www.sap-press.com/introducing-advanced-atp-aATP-in-sap-s4hana_4914/.

SAP S/4HANA 2022 On-premise release has provided one of the most wanted feature of ‘ Creation of planned order from sales order in case of non-availability of material’ as a part of new Supply creation based confirmation (SBC). Equivalent feature in APO GATP is called as ‘Capability to promise’ or CTP. My present blog is to describe this new SBC solution in in integrated aATP and embedded PPDS in SAP S/4HANA 2022 release.

A typical high level process flow diagram for SBC for Make to order scenario (MTO) is depicted in below image. A sales order is created for a MTO product which calls for ATP (Availability-to-promise) check in aATP and finds no available stock, hence it goes to embedded PP-DS (now called as Advanced planning in S/4HANA) for ‘Capacity & Scheduling simulation). Subsequently, a Delivery proposal is created in S/HANA core and a Planned orders are created in PP-DS on saving of Sales order for the finished good as well as for components.

A planned order 10237 has been created as a result of saving the MTO Sales order 10003069 as shown in below image.

Components , operations and the scheduling in corresponding resource for the planned order is depicted in below image.

Planned orders are also created for the components of the planned as shown in below image.

Above flow has been shown for MTO (Make to order) scenario as an example, MTS (Make to stock) is also supported in SBC in S/4HANA 2022. SBC is just the first release in 2022 and has some limitations with pegging in MTS scenario , Alternative based confirmations (ABC) etc. SBC supports Product allocation (PAL) at Finished good level , but not at component level as of now. SBC also will evolve in upcoming releases. Multi-level ATP (MATP) used by several APO - GATP customers is expected in 2024 release of S/4HANA.

Note that SBC

  • requires the integration between AATP and Advanced planning (PP-DS) in S/4HANA and both of them (aATP and PP-DS) require additional licenses
  • does NOT support VC (variant characteristics) as of 2022 FPS01 release

This blog is based on my personal tests, observations in aATP and embedded PP-DS on S/4HANA 2022 release. Will appreciate your feedback / comments.??

Great to see this functionality available in S/4. I think it is very similar to CTP right? Does it also check capacity situation at component level?
