Creating your own outcome

Have you been passed over for promotions? There are so many valid reasons when might be passed over. Perhaps there is no opening at a higher level, perhaps other people have more seniority, or it could be that others have had better results. Whatever the reason, hoping and wishing to move up in a career requires determined action on your part.

The problem with this logic, is that a new employer, particularly in today's environment, if you are so qualified to become a district manager why hasn't your current employer already promoted you? Add to that the concerns the new employer has that you do not know their policies and processes.

The best approach is to take that lateral move but only take it to a company offering true growth potential. Most frequently this is going to be at a company that is adding new units.
