Creating your Invention, where do you start?
Welcome to the Power Behind Your Idea - Episode 1 - Creating your Invention, where do you start.
This is first thing all successful inventors do, but you are never told about?
I love inventing and I love inventing children’s toys because I’m a big kid at heart.
It’s important for me do start the inventive process doing something I love. Why? Because at the start I’m probably working for nothing, and if I’m working for nothing, I am not going to do it for very long unless it’s something I enjoy doing. To become a successful inventor is a long term game.
Here’s how Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple describes it.
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."
Other people “feel” your energy and want to become involved.
After BetterBlocks success I started developing a product that was totally new to me, but very dear to my heart. Now, 20 years later, I am putting the finishing touches on the final product. If I didn’t love what I do I would have given up long ago.
What I’m about to ask you to do next is the MOST IMPORTANT KEY TO BEING A SUCCESSFUL INVENTOR THAT MOST PROGRAMS LEAVE OUT! I cannot stress this point strongly enough, and I’ll explain more later!!!! The 599 out of 600 inventors who are not successful probably have not done this step.
Please answer these questions
o What are some of the things you love doing?
o What are you good at?
o Write down anything that comes to mind.
o Write down what you love about them.
o Why you enjoy doing them.
o Would you still be excited about doing them in 5 years? (Remember, inventing is a long term game)
o If you have a smile on your face. This is a good sign because it means you like what you are doing.
Cheers and Happy Inventing.
