Creating Your Ideal Job & Life In 2020

On New Years Eve 2020 at 10pm, I was curled up in a ball in bed too exhausted to face the world….

6 weeks later, in mid-February 2020, I am 2 weeks into my dream role and bouncing out of bed in the morning excited to start a new day. How did I turn my life around and what can you learn from this Post if you are a job seeker, entrepreneur or anyone who wants more out of life?

For the past 6 months, I have been searching for the perfect job-fit. I have completed personality tests, psych tests, listened to careers podcasts, written lists of ‘to have’ and ‘not to have’ in a job. I have approached Recruiters to learn from their experience and insights and sent through my Resume. I have applied for many SEEK jobs and always made it to interview stage but always just missed out. I created a Christie McCabe website dedicated to my job search. I wrote scripts and created videos and animations to stand out for advertised roles and always made it to interview stage but always just missed out. I spent weeks on test presentations and trial blogs for roles and continued to just miss out. Something was missing. The roles weren’t quite right, I wasn’t quite right.

When you are in the thick of it all, you can’t see why you keep hearing ‘unfortunately’ and it takes a toll!

By the end of 2019, I was exhausted mentally and emotionally for I had been trying my best and went above and beyond but never won the role, hence my depressed state on NYE 2020.

I was not knocked down for long though. On the 1st of January, 2020, I decided to change my strategy!

Instead of waiting for a role to be advertised and competing in the bloody market of job searching with everyone else, I decided to take destiny into my own hands and with help from above, the right opportunity came my way.

I researched 20 companies I wanted to work for on the Gold Coast.

I researched everything about them. I read their blogs, listened to their podcasts, read their reviews, analysed their websites, gained a feel for their teams and made sure that I would fit in and could add great value.

I then created a custom whiteboard animation, resume and website page to send to my top 3 picks.

I called each company before I sent my custom digital media introductions to let them know to expect something in the ‘mail’.

A day later I followed up with a phone call to make a time for a coffee chat. I called the next day as well.

By day 3 of my strategy I had secured a coffee catch up/interview with my top 3 companies.

By the following week, I had a new job and not any old job but my ideal role, in my ideal company, in a vibrant and creative team… and this is where the fun begins!

**Please note that none of the companies had an advertised role at the time I approached them. My presentation though was so compelling that one of them gave me a shot!
