“Baseball is life,” said my now, 18 year-old son. The baseball field is his happy place. We knew he had a love for the game when he would hit off a tee in our backyard in his footed pajamas at two years-old.? For him, there is nothing better than being on the pitcher’s mound.? He has worked hard at refining and maintaining his pitching skills. You could say it is his life’s passion. He has learned early that in order to enjoy it, he has to make other things work around it. He figured out his school schedule and his employment schedule during high school, so he never missed a practice or a game. This year he will begin his college baseball career, and he is in the process of moving across the country, working through his class schedule and work schedule to pull it all together. I like that he has taken full control of all the elements of his life to pursue his happiness factor.?
One of the most incredible parts about looking into franchise ownership is that ability to create your happiness factor. When you own your own business, you are in full control of what you do with that business and with your lifestyle.?
Creating a Lifestyle You Want
A lot of people tell me that they've moved from other parts of the country to get to a certain place, to have a certain job, to be able to grow in a certain position, only to find themselves cut out of corporate America.? They were cut out of that job after they adjusted their lifestyle to move to another town to take it.?
I think it's really important to consider what happiness is. Recently, I was blessed to be working with a wonderful couple who were looking to move across the country.? Part of their retirement plan was to go to a place, as they put it, “that makes us happy to be alive” and gave them everything they want from a lifestyle perspective. They enjoy the outdoors and had picked a certain area that would allow them to hike, ride bikes and fish regularly. They were looking for a business that would be the vehicle to help them get to that place and that lifestyle they wanted.?
They worked through their transferable skill sets and figured out how to use them to maximize success in a franchise business. They chose a service franchise that operates Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.? The husband’s transferable skills in management, operations and logistics were key to making this a great choice for them. The wife’s marketing background was perfect for implementing the franchisor’s marketing strategy to drive customers their way. They are getting their business running and enjoying their free time pursuing what makes them happy.?
