Creating The World We Want to Live in

Creating The World We Want to Live in

Every company is acutely aware nowadays that people want to work for a values-based organization. This reality is even more important now that flexible work models make it easy for people to change companies without needing to change location.

As a company that’s been around more than nine decades, we at Henry Schein have seen lots of change in our business – but none in our values, which are eternal.

Our values are what you would expect from a company with a long record of success serving our health care professionals around the world – ethics, open communication, diversity and inclusion, corporate citizenship, shared success, encouraging creativity, and recognizing that each person is as important as the next and that people are our greatest asset.

While we don’t intend to ever change our values – they are the foundation of the trust-based relationships that support Henry Schein’s success – the way we communicate those values is changing, in keeping with the times.

Every other year, we conduct a global culture survey of our Team Schein Members (TSMs) – now more than 25,000 individuals – for their thoughts on what our Company does well and what we can do better. In the survey concluded late last year, TSMs told us that our culture and values were our top strengths but that we need to communicate our Company’s values more tangibly, a point of view that also happens to align with external research about generational trends in culture and communications. In a post-pandemic hybrid workplace, how we communicate our values can make all the difference. How do we live our values and how does our team contribute to our culture?

Based on that feedback, we distilled our Team Schein Values into three pillars – what we call the 3Cs of Community, Caring, and Career. We think these pillars will help our TSMs, and perhaps the readers of this article, to understand how we live our values and more importantly how we can continue to keep them alive for continued success. Here they are:

  1. Community: Building a sense of connection with other team members and having opportunities to build meaningful relationships
  2. Caring: Feeling cared for as individuals, coupled with a sense of purpose in contributing to the communities in which we live and work
  3. Career: Having meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and develop, in alignment with our business objectives?

In categorizing our values within these pillars, we hope that every TSM will feel connected to what makes Henry Schein a great place to work – being part of a caring community that invests in your career journey and encourages you to contribute to Henry Schein’s mission of making the world healthier.

What’s so important to us about this initiative is that our values help us create the world that we want to live and work in.?

What kind of world do you want to create?
