Creating The Vision To Disrupt Yourself

Creating The Vision To Disrupt Yourself

Kathy Mazzarella, president, CEO, and chairman of Fortune 500 Graybar Electric understands that without vision, there is no innovation, change, or transformation. Tackling the hard work of defining an inspiring, optimistic, and meaningful future reality you really believe is possible not only sets the tone of an organization ... it provides the foundation for the needed change and innovation.

In my latest Innovate For The Future podcast episode, Kathy explains that the ability for leaders to peer into the future and craft a compelling vision is especially important during this time of digital transformation.

"If you want to sustain your business long term you really have no choice but to embrace disruption and embrace change. If you don't you'll become irrelevant or less significant. Status quo isn't going to win this game."

In describing how Graybar leadership peers into the future to craft their vision, Kathy outlines how they view technology, workforce trends, urbanization, and sustainability as four mega trends that are changing the business of distribution. At the core of any vision moving forward in this age of disruption, she also explains why and how digital transformation must be central to our vision going forward.

But crafting the vision alone is not enough. Leaders and organizations must have the courage to drive change.

"What's the risk of standing still?"

In this insightful, informative, and inspirational interview, Kathy explains that too often individuals are reluctant to move when they look at the risk of change. "You look at the disruption of change, what it's going to cost you and how it is going to make your employees uncomfortable." Continuing Mazzarella reminds us to ask ourselves "If you don't change, what's going to happen? What's the risk of standing still?"
