Creating Value and Growing Outward: T-Mobile Summer Internship
Mitchell Chappell
Marketing and Data Analytics Student at University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Last Friday marked the end of my summer internship with T-Mobile in Frisco, Texas. Throughout my time here, I was able to work cross-functionally with several teams, including Sales Development, Operations, Marketing, and Experience. I contributed to multiple projects, culminating in T-Mobile's signature Intern Impact Presentation to company leaders.
As a Data Analyst Intern, I delved into pressing issues currently affecting my team, not only providing immediate relief but also proposing and implementing lasting solutions. I was able to make a meaningful impact, a chance not every internship program offers its interns. Working with everchanging and seemingly unrelenting data masses every day opened my eyes to the realities that major companies face daily.
Defining Culture
What separates T-Mobile from other companies is undoubtedly the company culture. Although I had heard about T-Mobiles Un-carrier mentality before joining I didn't truly understand it until I was immersed in it. It did not take long to see that T-Mobile is a company with a beating heart, fighting on behalf of the unhappy and unconnected, fearlessly motivated by the notion of connecting everyone everywhere. T-Mobile employees are genuinely catalysts of these values. The success of a company hinges on employees embracing its culture, and T-Mobile is nailing it.
The People
One of T-Mobile's missions is to change wireless for good, and fittingly, the people driving this vision have profoundly changed me for good. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with not only the industry's most brilliant minds but also its most altruistic and inspiring individuals. From the friendly morning greetings from our security staff and casual coffee machine encounters to high-level meetings, the people at T-Mobile made my internship memorable. Navigating a new city can be daunting, but sharing this experience with my fellow interns made it all the better. The relationships I've developed here are truly meaningful and will continue to last long after my time with the company. Wishing you all success ahead.
Lasting Value
One of the most exciting parts of my internship was developing a Semi-Automated Lead Routing System aimed at alleviating our high-volume data influxes in the summer months. I took on the responsibility of creating a program that would improve data management while keeping efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in mind. Created to automate previously manual tasks my system:
Additionally, I extensively utilized Salesforce to qualify large volumes of leads daily, evaluated the effectiveness of prospecting calls by analyzing factors influencing decisions and objections, and developed several datasets to categorize government accounts and map them to pertinent, commonly found job titles.

Proper lead routing and quality leads are crucial for Sales Development Teams to maximize both efficiency and conversion rates. Accurate lead routing enables prospects to connect with the most appropriate representative based on territory and expertise, improving the likelihood of positive customer engagement. Quality leads, characterized by relevant information, genuine product interest, and accurate details, enable sales teams to focus their efforts on prospects with a higher potential for conversion driving positive sales outcomes.
Away from the Desk
Beyond my time at the office, I engaged in various other opportunities over the summer through T-Mobile. These experiences included:
West Dallas Boys & Girls Club
A couple of weeks ago, my fellow interns and I had the privilege of assisting the West Dallas Boys and Girls Club with their facility upkeep. Together, we contributed to making the club cleaner and more organized.
Bellevue, WA
In June, I had the chance to visit T-Mobile’s headquarters in Bellevue, WA. It was a fantastic experience to witness the heartbeat of the company up close. While there, I attended a company-wide intern meeting, which included an Interview with CEO, Mike Sievert, and got a deeper insight into our Marketing department (Thank you, Marvin Sanchez ).
Wrapping up: Thank you, T-Mobile.
Special appreciation to Callie Field for supporting an internship program within TFB, Kate Zaborowski for being a consistent source of support throughout my internship, and Ari Vafaei for your support throughout both the hiring process and my internship.
I am deeply grateful for everyone else who made a positive impact on me this summer.
