Creating a Tranquil Home Spa Experience in Tokyo

Creating a Tranquil Home Spa Experience in Tokyo

When I lived in Tokyo from 1992 to 1998, I relished the bustling metropolis with its endless entertainment, dining, shopping, and museums. However, after about a year, I started to yearn for peace, nature, and relaxation—a break from the city's intensity. While Tokyo offered recreational areas, the journey back home could be long and stressful, undoing the relaxation I sought.

After pondering my options, I realized my apartment had untapped potential. It was a beautifully designed space with views of tall trees amidst Tokyo's urban sprawl. Determined to create a sanctuary without leaving the city, I made a few transformative changes. First, I invited my acupuncturist to set up a practice in one of the bedrooms, scheduling my friends (new clients for him) two hours apart and inviting new friends to join. I also prepared healthy meals throughout the day and turned another room into a cozy cinema—this was back in the VHS era!

My home spa concept took off immediately. Booking clients for Mamoro, an exceptional acupuncturist, became effortless. His two-hour treatments left guests feeling as rejuvenated as if they'd taken a beach vacation. While we didn't indulge in cucumber slices or facials, the possibilities were endless.
