Creating Space For You?

Last week I caught a clip from the Drew Barrymore show that really resonated with me. The guest, Matthew Hussey shared the idea that loving yourself is your job. Consider, that when you are born, you are told that you have been given a human, and your one job is to take care of this human for the rest of your life.?

As a child, our parents are there to help take care of us; but as we mature, it becomes our responsibility to care for our human. No one else is responsible for me.

It’s a big responsibility.?Adulting means loving yourself like it's your job!

In my 20's and 30's, I wish I had understood how important it was to care for myself. Instead, I was busy prioritizing work, family, and friends. I certainly didn’t prioritize myself, or even think much about my own health, outside of my annual physical.

I let life happen instead of being intentional about living.?

I have learned that I have one body and one life. To live the long list of dreams I have, I need to take care of my human. This knowledge has been at the forefront of many of my decisions over the last few years.

In addition to shifting my priorities, exercising, and continually practicing my boundaries to create space for myself, I have a health journal.

My journal has two sections:

1) In the first section, I capture how I am feeling. I typically check in with myself on my main health concerns 3-4 times a week. I capture how I feel, what has changed and any new observations.?

2) In the second section, I note all my interactions with a practitioner. It could be my family doctor, specialist, therapist, practitioner, energy worker, or anyone I have engaged in my health circle to take care of my human.?

You need to put your oxygen mask on before assisting others with theirs.?

It is time to create space for you.

Take care,

Coach Lisa
