When was the last time you surrendered?
For me, 2024 has been a jam-packed year, personally and professionally. The first half of the year was heavier on the professional side, and then the personal challenges started piling on in the second half.
In early July, I enjoyed spending a couple of weeks away with my boys. It was wonderful, I was genuinely feeling a little rested. But within days of getting home, there was one significant event after another. Starting with my stepmom having a double lung transplant, an intense case of COVID-19, and my husband suffering a brain injury—his third.?
During this time, I was still prioritizing self care. I went to the gym, walked in nature, and most nights I had a decent sleep.
It wasn’t until I went away for a weekend retreat at the beginning of October that I realized I was not okay.?
At the retreat, there were no phones, no alcohol, and no one else to be responsible for. There was plenty of time to simply be. Yes, of course, there were scheduled activities, but I had space to reflect, think, and feel—all important parts of self care that aren’t as easy to prioritize in my daily routine.
During the retreat and in the weeks since then, I have been processing each emotion and acknowledging my feelings. I have been angry, grateful, frustrated, sad, annoyed, happy, worried, and, in some ways—let down.?
Each of these feelings, emotions, and related thoughts needs space to be experienced, acknowledged, understood, and processed.
Not only did the retreat help me surrender my cell phone and wine; the even more significant lesson was surrendering and creating space for my feelings and emotions.?
What do you need to surrender to??
Take care,
