Creating a Shared 5G Future
During the last week of January I had the pleasure of attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, which this year focused on ‘Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World’.
One of the key themes as part of this, was the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the role of connectivity, in addition to the talent and skills needed to make a successful transformation. It was a fantastic event, providing a great opportunity to meet with customers, operators, regulators and key stakeholders from many different industries to discuss what the Fourth Industrial Revolution means to them and come together to shape the future as part of a global effort. As the world becomes more digitally connected, this topic is becoming more important than ever and there is an increasing need for the technology industry to define the role it will take in order to create maximum value.
Industries are moving towards digitalization for better business outcomes. This includes increasing revenue by better serving customers, growing demand and beating the competition, in addition to increasing efficiency and minimizing risk by improving safety and security.
5G will underpin these mega trends. With the development of 5G being driven by new use cases that will enable innovation for both consumers and industries, we need to define what a 5G business is and how the technology will be shaped to make it come alive.
With the recent launch of our complete 5G platform, including first commercial 5G RAN software, the future is looking very exciting and it’s great to enable our customers to be the first to market with 5G and grow 4G capacity in their networks today. All radio products within Ericsson Radio System delivered since 2015 will now support 5G New Radio (NR) capability through remote software installation.
In addition to our new distributed cloud approach to accelerate 5G and IoT growth, our strengthened Ericsson Radio System portfolio and the launch of the 5G Radio Dot small cell solution, there will be many more launches to come at MWC18 and I’m really looking forward to meeting with many customers, industry partners and friends.

7 年Indeed the future architecture Arun - thanks for leading and making this a reality. There is real joy in seeing a vision come to reality from when I first got introduced to GSM back in 1996 in Ericsson. Look forward to MWC next week #inspiring #vision #mobility
