Vulcan Real Estate is excited to announce that our partner, ANEW, will host its annual Diversity and Inclusion Summit this Thursday, November 21. ANEW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the access and advancement of underrepresented groups, including women, people of color, veterans, and those transitioning from incarceration, in construction and manufacturing career pathways. We have been proud partners with ANEW since 2017 and are deeply committed to their mission of expanding work opportunities within the construction trades and promoting inclusion at job sites and within the industry.
This year’s Diversity and Inclusion Summit will focus on targeted initiatives, such as navigating critical conversations, mentorship & empowerment, and building stronger foundations of fair employment and respectful treatment on job sites. In addition, this year’s summit will introduce a Respectful Workplace Climate Scale. Created for construction companies, the scale will help companies get a pulse of what is happening on their sites and where they can improve critical aspects of workplace culture.
Since its inception in 1980, ANEW has seen incredible success stories. I’shay Brownlee was working as a caregiver and a single mother when she found out about the apprenticeship programs at ANEW.? “My experience was the best because the instructors really cared about me and wanted me to succeed,” said Brownlee. “I learned so many different things I didn’t even know I was capable of learning.” I’shay now works with GLY Construction as a cement masonry. Her story is one of many that inspire ANEW to continue its work of exposing people to construction as a first-choice career.?
