Creating a powerful vision to grow your bookkeeping business
Does your vision fill you with burning desire? Here's a blog I've written a few years ago that talks about creating a powerful vision to grow your bookkeeping business.
Last week, Pete and I flew to Perth from Melbourne to run the 7 Secrets of Growing Your Bookkeeping Business Seminar. On the flight there was a family with a toddler. As we took off, she shouted “We’re up in the sky!” No fear. Just pure excitement.
It made me think about my flying experience. For many years I was terrified. I hated being “up in the sky” and couldn’t bear to look out the window. Eating? No way! I spent each trip with my eyes closed, imagining I was just in a car bumping along the road not 30,000 feet up in the air! I’m pleased to say that I’ve overcome my fear of flying. I pushed through because the desire to travel was greater than my fear of flying.
That’s how powerful desire can be. If you want something so badly, so deeply and so passionately you’ll walk over hot coals to achieve it. You know how important it is to create a vision for your future. Napoleon Hill takes that another step. In Think and Grow Rich he said “Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything.”
A powerful vision isn’t about money or acquiring things. It’s about something in your life that you are passionate about. Something burns deeply and matters to you more than life itself. What is going to feel like when you’ve achieved your vision? What example will you be for your children? What difference will it make to your family, your health, your well-being? I had a vision to replace my husband’s income so he could retire from a stressful job. It took 14 years but we achieved that this year. What it’s done for his well-being and our relationship is something money can’t buy and something that burned deeply in me for many years.
