Creating a Positive Future
Future cities are possible by blending appropriate technology with systems that works with nature

Creating a Positive Future

For so many people day-to-day life is challenging especially with the spread of COVID in it many variants and the ongoing effects of extreme weather. For some it is downright horrific. But for a small segment we dare to believe that the future has the real possibility of being better than today ... much better.

While utopian futures are by definition unrealistic or impossible, and dystopian futures are filled with death, disease, global apocalypse and despair, a Protopian future is one where life is unquestionably better for the large majority of citizens while still not perfect. Residents still have to deal with many of the typical challenges that life presents but for most, day-to-day life is better than today.

The larger than life topic of sustainability is deeply woven into a Protopian future because it is instability and unpredictability which leads to many of our growing issues. How many would have imagined that if a large freighter completely blocked a shipping canal for one week that it would cause supply ripples across the globe for months afterwards.

It is nigh time for us to generate realistic visions of the future as guideposts for creative thinkers and influencers to discuss and then move towards. There are many ideas already under development in the areas of food production, energy generation, healthcare and low-carbon building materials.

By integrating many of these solutions into a comprehensive cityscape, the benefits are multiplied many time over. By shrinking many of our supply chains we can significantly increase its stability while keeping money and resources closer to home.
