Creating Positive Culture: Everyone can contribute


Recently, a young friend approached me with a concern. They felt their workplace culture was toxic, and they weren’t sure how to navigate it. I reminded them of a powerful truth: while leadership sets the tone, every individual has the potential to influence culture.

Toxic cultures can be stifling and demoralizing. But rather than passively accepting it, consider these proactive steps:

  1. Speak Up: Start by having open conversations with colleagues. Share your concerns and ideas for improvement.Remember, you’re not alone.
  2. Collaborate: Work with like-minded colleagues to form a support network. Together, you can amplify your voices and advocate for positive change.
  3. Be a Positive Force: Lead by example. Demonstrate respect, empathy, inclusion and a positive attitude in your interactions. Your actions can inspire others to follow suit.
  4. Engage with Leadership: Approach your manager or HR department with constructive suggestions. Express your desire for a healthier work environment.
  5. Seek External Support: If internal efforts are unsuccessful, consider reaching out to a mentor or industry professional for guidance.

Remember, even small changes can have a ripple effect. Don't just complain, do something ! By taking initiative and working collaboratively, you can contribute to a more positive and productive workplace culture.

While I totally agree this is the way to deal with toxicity at work place, it is easier said than done. When you decide to speak up against a toxic senior at work, its a grit test. Fight will be long enough to demoralize you to give it all up. Support from colleagues goes a long way. A supportive talent leader is a great asset. Reach out and seek help and you will find help.
