Creating opportunities for students to find their career pathway
Employability of students has often been defined by assumptions that degrees such as medicine, law & nursing hold the skills needed to succeed in the workforce. This assumption has meant that a clear employability path is better defined for these students leading up to graduation. However, those who study outside of these degrees often have varied pathways causing confusion for students.?
Jennifer Westacott argued, outlined by Kim Carr in the Financial Review, that students who study outside of these faculties often possess the analytical and research skills that make them more employable, reinforcing the need for clear employability pathways in all degrees.
Connecting with volunteer opportunities that match their skills and interests, is a way students can thrive during the early stages of their career. Students can enhance their existing skills and identify areas for improvement, while helping an organisation build their capacity for making change. Through this, they can explore opportunities to excel while building relationships contacts with future clients or employers.??
At Communiteer, we want faculty and staff to obtain the knowledge of how they can better approach, engage and guide students to have a clearer career path. Facilitated by Communiteer's Michelle Adler,?and AVI's Ipsita Wright, learn about how volunteering and mentoring in combination can boost employability scores, improve course relevance to the real world and create social impact all at the same time.
