In digital marketing, we set goals to improve reach, number of clicks, and sales.
In professional networking, we may also set goals to learn about an industry, learn a software tool/earn a certification, help land a new job, discuss project/consulting work, share knowledge/ give back.
Networking in Person
It is helpful to know why you want to network, but it also helps to be open to opportunities. You might find out, and create opportunities that you didn’t even know were available!?
Recently, I participated in a few in person networking events: Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce(GAACC) Women's Club monthly lunch, and Women In Product-Austin Monthly event. While my main goal of networking is to learn of companies and people hiring for my next position, I am happy to share knowledge, ask questions, and follow-up. When I connect with someone new, I can usually find something in common to talk about. I am also someone who still hands out business cards:
Staying Connected with your Network
Cultivating your network is important to maintaining connections and building rapport. Everyone is busy and has their own list of priorities. But, most people you meet, and take the time to stay in touch with, are happy to help. This is the power of networking and establishing a mutually beneficial professional relationship.?advocateforyourself #worklifebalance #networking #supportingeachother #empowerment AnitaB.org
