Creating a New Identity - Part II: Becoming Someone Different

On April 16 I posted an article titled "Creating a New Identity: Becoming a New Person Without Being a Fake or Losing Your Authenticity". This provoked some reactions from my readers, and has prompted me to dive a little bit deeper into the subject.
Change is difficult for many of us because we strive to make everything different at once because we are overly optimistic and unrealistic. Being the "new Me" rapidly becomes our obsession for you, and those around you. And when it doesn't happen as quickly as we'd want, no one notices our transformation, or a challenge arises, we give up.
It's difficult to commit to change once more when we are discouraged by our failure, overwhelmed, and dejected. As a result, we develop a talent for finding excuses to resist change. We apologise. We use logic. We have beliefs that cause all kinds of denial and resistance, and as a result, we don't change anything. Ever. We fall short of achieving our goals for ourselves.
Identity is a complex concept that can be difficult to understand and define. However, we all have multiple identities that make us who we are, including our cultural, social, and personal identities. But what happens when we want to truly become someone different? How can we create a new identity?
Our Created Identity
According to a model of identity, the final element is our Created Identity, which refers to the new person that we can create. This is the future that we create for ourselves, and it is something that we can actively work towards.
Creating a New Identity
If you want to create a new identity for yourself, the first step is to challenge yourself by asking the following questions:
领英推荐
●???????What is my identity now?
●???????Where did that identity come from? (Memories, feedback from others, programming?)
●???????What is the new person I want to create?
●???????How can I create a new identity?
When creating a new identity, it is important to do so without being a hypocrite or a fake. You want to become a better version of yourself, but not at the expense of your authenticity.
In conclusion, creating a new identity is possible, but it requires introspection, self-reflection, and a willingness to challenge yourself. With these tools, you can become someone different, someone better, without sacrificing your true self.
