Creating mental space through coaching.
I recently had an interesting conversation with a colleague that echoed my previous conversations with some clients and connections.
It went something like this:
"I don't think I can start coaching as I am already so busy and this would add another TO DO on my list. It's not a good time now."
Does it sound familiar?
I think this is the main misconception of coaching. There is a belief that coaching is used mainly to make you: faster, better, more productive and to increase your performance and in some cases to fix your performance.
What I've seen in practice is by having a bi-monthly one hour session with a certified coach allows the clients to slow down, take an eagle eye view on their lives and decide what's important, what can wait, and choose what serves them and brings the best in them. They get there by answering powerful coaching questions that are designed to get the perspective which we tend to loose once in the daily routine and very often when firefighting.

Anyone recognising themselves here?
Many clients after completing the coaching process indicate in the feedback form that what they valued the most was the thinking space and time they could use to refocus and concentrate on what really matters.
I personally believe that: Coaching is for the client.
The agenda belongs to the client and whatever client needs in the moment - this should be the focus of the session. It shouldn't feel heavy when you go to your coaching session. That's why we have a chemistry calls to ensure that the coach you will work with is the right one for you. Coaching addresses only now and here and helps the client design the future they want and create a plan on how to get there.
