Creating jobs and communities

Federal Parliament is back this week for the first time since the upheaval which saw Scott Morrison take the leadership reins from Malcolm Turnbull.

Most Australians will be expecting our political leaders and representatives to get on with the job of governing for the national interest and the wellbeing of our 25 million strong population.

The 1.4 million Australians who work in the property industry are certainly doing their share of the heavy lifting to keep the country moving. The latest national accounts figures highlighted the contribution our industry is making to our economic prosperity.

The construction industry grew by 1.9 per cent for the June 2018 quarter, and by 5.5 per cent over the year. Residential construction was up by 3.1 per cent and non-residential construction increased by 1.3 per cent during the quarter.

It’s much more than just a numbers game, though.

Our industry builds and manages the places that help to shape individual lives and prosperous communities.

It’s that strong sense of attachment to place which helps to inspire people such as our new executive director in WA, Sandra Brewer, who talks about her optimism for the future development of her home, Perth, in this issue of Property Australia.

I’m sure that enthusiasm for our industry’s potential to create great places for Australians to live and work will be on full display at The Property Congress here in Darwin this week. More than 750 people are attending. If you can’t join us in Darwin, we’ll be keeping you up to date with insights on our social media channels.
